Interest in AI is growing because it helps people to hand off their mundane work to machines. For entrepreneurs this means having more hours to spend in human added-value activities to grow their businesses. But, if you think that AI innovation is only for large brands you are wrong.
Artificial intelligence is an area of computer science where computers are designed to emulate human performance typically by learning, understanding complex content,engaging in natural dialogs with people, enhancing human cognitive performance and operating human tasks.
“A lot of what AI is being used for today only scratches the surface of what can be done,” said Babak Hodjat, co-founder and chief scientist at Sentient Technologies . AI innovation is only at its start, but it has already proven to be effective at optimising operational processes and workflows, automating repetitive tasks and getting where a few bunch of humans can’t (big data analysis).
SMBs benefit in adopting AI technologies would be enormous in terms of efficiency and quality of their business. For example, assisting the marketing team with AI solutions leads to team man-hours saved. And they can be spent on the more creative activities of their work.
But many think that AI is resource intensive and out of small businesses’ reach.
This is only partially true and for two main reasons:
1) There are far less expensive and complicated AI-based solutions for SMBs
AI intelligence is a vast area. It includes from very complicated innovation that needs a huge amount of resources to less expensive technologies within small businesses’ budgets limits.
Many small businesses have begun to see the potential and the market is reacting. Many startups are offering amazing solutions ready for use.
From apps that can help you manage your meetings to machine learning assisted technologies for marketing (that is the area we know better). For example, the latter can automate activities like content creation, analysing a huge amount of data to sort, extract and distribute information in extremely fast ways.
2) The adoption of AI innovation could be a smooth process in SMBs
AI is a technology that should woven in throughout all your business processes. SMBs have much less complicated processes so that weaving in a new tech might be easier and faster.
AI should be a must-have innovation for small business willing to increase their efficiency. No solution is totally plug-and-play and it may require some tweaking, but the price is worth pursuing.
The sooner the better. In a few years AI “will become so ubiquitous that we won’t even call it AI anymore” (said Babak Hodjat). Small businesses that adopt AI now gain the competitive advantage and run their business faster and better.
